Our girls' and boys' junior high basketball teams will make their 2023 debut as they travel a few miles up Hwy 95 to take on our neighbors to the north. From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good luck to Cason Mancill and Barrett Bennefield as they compete at the 2023 Strike King Bassmaster High School National Championship presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors in Anderson, South Carolina! The tournament runs from July 23-29. They will be competing on the largest stage for high school anglers in the world. This week-long event will host a little over 300 boats of the top teams of the nation representing Chireno High School from the Southeast Texas Tournament Series. To get to this stage, both Cason and Barrett worked tirelessly through weather of all kinds to achieve the success they have earned and have always represented our school with character and class. From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: This is a reminder to our athletes that the gym will be closed this week for voluntary workouts. Athletes are encouraged to check with their coach for any weight room or conditioning activities that could be planned.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Beginning Monday, July 10, Coach Graves will be conducting voluntary workouts for our Junior High basketball players in the mornings from 9:00-10:00. These workouts will take place Monday through Thursday.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Beginning next week on July 10, Coach Turner will be conducting voluntary workouts for our junior high and high school girls every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning. The junior high sessions will go from 9:00-10:00 while the high school ladies will workout from 10:00-12:00.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Coach Bleile will be offering opportunities for voluntary summer conditioning and weightlifting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 7-9 am. This is open to athletes entering grades 7-12 beginning this week. Basketball players are welcome to attend if they choose. However, please be advised that our basketball coaches will begin their program's voluntary summer workouts in a few of weeks when the gym becomes available.

Texas Senate Bill 9 Information for Parents & Guardians
According to Texas Senate Bill 9, Chireno ISD is required to provide instruction relating to the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking. With guidance from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), the Board of Trustees has approved the curriculum that will be used to teach each of these topics and has determined the grade level(s) that will receive instruction on each of these topics.
As a parent/guardian, you have the right to preview the curriculum(s) at any time. Before a student may be provided with instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking, Chireno ISD must obtain written consent from the student’s parent/guardian.
Please note: not all topics are covered at every grade level.

Just as they have all season, these young men battled all the way to the end last night at Nacogdoches Dragon Field in the loss to Joaquin. The future is bright for our baseball program. Thank you to our outgoing seniors who have certainly done their part to help elevate our baseball program over the last four years.

All games in this series will be played at Nacogdoches High School with admission being $5 for adults and $3 for students. Game 2 will be played at 7:00 pm Friday night. Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday. Le't go Mighty Owls!

This will be a best-of-three series with games 1 and 2 starting at 7:00 pm on Thursday and Friday evenings. Game 3, if necessary, will be played at 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon. We look forward to next year as our returning players will have another year of experience playing at a high level. Thank you to our outgoing seniors for their commitment and contribution to make Chireno's softball the fine program it has become.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our baseball team is scheduled to play their final home and regular season game Thursday evening at 6:00 pm against West Sabine. This is also Senior Night for our young men playing their final game on the home diamond. This game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was moved up to avoid conflicts with the Regional track meet. Should this game need to be postponed due to wet field conditions, we will announce a rescheduled time as soon as one is agreed upon with West Sabine. Good luck to our Lady Owls softball team as they will play a best of three series with Evadale beginning Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm. Game 2 will be played at 11:00 am on Saturday, and Game 3 (if necessary) will be played at 1:00 pm. These games will be played at Jasper High School's softball field. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
