From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good luck to our junior high and high school cross country runners as they compete at Corrigan-Camden this afternoon! We are getting better each week and feel that we will be heavy contenders for the district crown in two weeks. Our junior high basketball teams will also be back on the home court tomorrow evening as we host Big Sandy. The first of three games will begin at 4:30 pm with the boys' B team game. The girls' A team will follow and the boys' A team will cap off the night.
Happy Friday! This is a friendly reminder to all that Chireno ISD will be dismissing early today at 12:00 pm. Car riders will begin loading at 11:50 am and buses will depart the campus shortly after the early dismissal bell.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Happy Monday! With school districts in the area keeping a watchful eye on weather developments in the Gulf, the decision was made to move the Broaddus Cross Country meet up a day. So, our junior high and high school runners will compete tomorrow, Tuesday, September 10, instead of Wednesday. The varsity girls will begin at 12:30 pm with the varsity boys getting underway approximately 30 minutes later. The junior high girls will begin at 3:40 pm and the junior high boys will cap off the afternoon at 4:00 pm.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our Junior High Lady Owls for bringing home championship hardware this past Saturday as winners of the Broaddus Junior High Tournament! They scored victories over Big Sandy and Broaddus on their way to the top prize. Our Junior High Mighty Owls secured their first win of the season with a victory over Broaddus on their way to a strong second place finish. Both programs will be back in action Tuesday, August 27, at Wells where A and B teams will play. The girls' B team will get the evening underway with a 5:00 pm tip off followed by the boys' B team. The girls' and boys' A teams will cap off the night.

11:00 am - Chireno vs. Broaddus (girls)

She is one of 231 students state-wide from all UIL classifications who earned this distinction as a result of accumulating at least 50 points by excelling at various UIL journalism contests this past school year. The is a remarkable accomplishment that requires dedication and hard work to achieve. Way to go, Brielle!!

Chireno High School is sad to report that it has learned of the death of one of its former students, Alexis “Alex” Lozoya, from his family. Alex, an 18 year old former student, died May 23, 2024. He was a resident of Chireno. Funeral arrangements are not available at this time. The school counselor, Mrs. Pinner, is available tomorrow, May 24, should any student wish to talk about Alex’s death. Please keep the family in your prayers as they deal with this difficult situation.

Senior Trevin King placed 6th in Informative Speaking; Senior Colton Theriot brought home a silver medal placing 2nd in Computer Applications; and Freshman Brielle Theriot claimed a bronze medal placing 3rd in Editorial Writing. Congratulations to these students along with UIL sponsor Kim Sloane on these outstanding performances!
