Courtney Davis
Courtney plans on going to a trade school to further her education on becoming a dental assistant. Courtney's most memorable moment was when Mr. Norman would get onto the class, but she really enjoyed Mr. Norman's class! Courtney's advice would be to enjoy the time in high school while you are in it! Her class bonded the most her senior year and she wishes could have more! Enjoy it now! Courtney's most impactful educator was Mrs L!

Risten Cook
Risten plans on entering the workforce starting this summer building metal buildings and framing. He then plans to pursue a career in the construction field. Risten's most memorable moment was getting the opportunity to play in the regional basketball tournament in Austin. Risten's advice would the to not fall into the culture of being a teenager following other people's poor decisions. The only opinion that matters truly is the Lord's. Risten's most impactful educator would be Coach Cook, aka his dad.


Class of 2022 Senior Spotlight
Morgan Collier
Morgan will be attending Stephen F. Austin State University to obtain a degree in Early Childhood Education. She plans on becoming a teacher. Morgan couldn't think of a singular moment she'd describe as her most memorable. Instead, she stated that it was the people who made it an experience with all the laughs, building relationships, and conquering challenges. Her advice would be to make relationships that will last forever. Her most impactful educator was Mrs. Mancill.

Kalissa Barnes
Kalissa will be using her CNA certification she earned here at Chireno to work as a CNA this summer while attending Angelina College to become a registered nurse. Her most memorable moment in high school was the senior trip to Galveston. She stated that she never thought she would go to the beach with her whole class. Kalissa's advice would be to cherish every moment until the day you graduate. Time flies and the last four years have gone by pretty fast. Her most impactful educator was Mrs Scarborough.

Breanna will be attending college to become a Social Worker. Her most memorable moment in high school was this years second senior trip to Galveston. Breanna's advice would be to not procrastinate about the big things because your senior year will go by very fast. Her most impactful educator was Mrs. L.


From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to senior Risten Cook who advanced to the state track meet to be held at UT Austin on May 13-14. Risten placed second in the discus with a throw of 124’9” at the regional track meet this past weekend. Our Lady Owls softball team will begin their playoff journey this Friday afternoon at Nacogdoches High School against the Wells Lady Pirates. First pitch is slated for 6:00 pm. Game 2 of the series will be played the following day at noon, also at Nacogdoches High School. Game 3, if necessary, will be played approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2. Stay tuned for information regarding our Mighty Owls baseball squad’s pending playoff games. Finally, good luck to all of our students taking STAAR and End-of-Course exams this week at the high school and junior high levels.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Today's baseball game with Zavalla will not be played and has been ruled a forfeit with the Owls getting the win. Also, there has been a change in the softball playoff schedule for next week. Due to scheduling conflicts within both schools, the Chireno and Wells softball coaches have moved Game 1 to next Friday, May 6, at 6:00 pm. Game 2 will be played the following day on Saturday, May 7, at noon. If necessary, Game 3 will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2. All games will be played at Nacogdoches High School. Finally, good luck to our regional track qualifiers as they compete for a chance to advance to the state track meet. Those athletes are Dacey Coleman (400m dash), Risten Cook (shot put and discus), Brett Rushing (1600m run), Keith Patton (1600m run), and Tayleon Garner (high jump).

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Happy Monday! April is quickly coming to a close, which means post-district activities are about to get underway as teams from all over the state embark on the journey to state level competition. The rain has already affected the softball game originally rescheduled for this afternoon in Colmesneil. This game has now been officially cancelled and will not be made up. Our Lady Owls will now set their sights on the first round of the playoffs and the Lady Pirates from Wells. This will be a best-of-three series beginning next Tuesday, May 3 at 6:00 pm; game 2 will be played on Thursday, May 5 at 6:00 pm; and if necessary, a deciding game played at high noon on Saturday, May 7. All games in this series will be played at Nacogdoches High School. Our baseball squad will play the final two games of the regular season this week. Tomorrow, our young men will travel to Burkeville for a 4:30 game and then conclude with a road game against Zavalla on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Stay tuned for first round baseball playoff information. Our regional track qualifiers will be in action this weekend at Webster High School near League City. Good luck to Brett Rushing, Keith Patton, Risten Cook, Tayleon Garner, and Dacey Coleman as they compete for a spot at the state track meet coming up on the campus of UT Austin. We have three students that will travel to San Marcos this weekend for the TAEA VASE State Art Competition. Good luck to Lacie Boulet, Reese Moore, and Jose Recio Cordova as they compete for the top spots throughout the state. Finally, we extend congratulations to the following students as they represented our school extremely well at the Regional UIL Academic Meet at Blinn College this past weekend: Piper Patterson (5th place, Calculator Applications), Trevin King (4th place, Informative Speaking - alternate state qualifier), Emmalee Gray (2nd place, LD Debate - state qualifier), Whitley Johnson (1st place, LD Debate - state qualifier), and the Chireno HS Journalism team (Regional Champions and state qualifiers - Saylor Holloway, Jessica Durrett, and Alaina Goodwin). We have a lot to be excited about as this month comes to a close. Good luck to all our competitors and coaches as we look to keep the momentum rolling!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: We have a schedule change. Today's baseball game against Colemesneil has been postponed until tomorrow evening due to unavailability of baseball officials. First pitch is still scheduled for 6:00 pm. Today's home softball game will be the only contest on campus this evening. Our Lady Owls begin play at 5:00 pm against Colemesneil.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good morning and welcome to what we believe will be another outstanding week for our student athletes! We have a few of our students competing in the area track meet at Zavalla on Wednesday for opportunities to advance to Regionals. On Thursday of this week, our high school academic UIL Regional qualifiers will be traveling to Brenham to try their hand at possibly qualifying for state competition to be held later in May on the campus of UT Austin. Our softball team will kick things off for the week when they travel to Woden this afternoon for a 5:00 pm matchup with the Lady Eagles. Our ladies will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon in the final home game of the year as we host Colmesneil. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm. On Friday, our softball team will play West Sabine. This game will begin later than usual as several of our softball players will be returning from Regional UIL academic competition in Brenham. First pitch is now scheduled for 7:00 pm at West Sabine. Our baseball squad will play their initial game of the week tomorrow evening here at home against Colmesneil. This will be a varsity matchup only. Strike one is scheduled for 6:00 pm. On Friday, our young men will play at 6:00 pm in West Sabine. The following day, we will return home to host Broaddus in a late morning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Good morning and welcome to Monday! This week's slate of extracurricular activities is already underway as our regional tennis qualifiers are already competing in Pflugerville this morning. Good luck to those individuals battling at the net and along the baselines! Just as the case has been over the past few weeks, we will keep an eye on potentially threatening weather over the next few days as it pertains to our scheduled athletic events for the early portion of the week. Today, our baseball squad will host Leggett for a second time this season as we get underway on the home diamond at 4:00 pm. Our young men will then travel to Brookeland on Thursday afternoon for two games. On that day, the JV squad will begin at 4:30, while the varsity will throw their first pitch at 7:00 pm. Our Lady Owls will also travel to Brookeland on Thursday for a 5:00 pm game with the Lady Wildcats. Our high school track teams will compete at the district 28-1A track meet this Wednesday in Zavalla. This meet is scheduled to begin at around 9:45 am and conclude at approximately 5:30 pm weather permitting. And finally, our high school One-Act Play will host an encore performance of their play that advanced to the Area round of competition in Waco last weekend. The play is titled "A Rose for Emily" and will be performed in our school cafeteria on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:00 pm. Admission is free.

There's no better way to celebrate the end of a busy work week than to come and watch our Lady Owls take on Zavalla this afternoon in what is expected to be a rather windy game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm. We will be recognizing our three senior softball players (Jessica Durrett, Alaina Goodwin, and Morgan Collier) a few minutes before both teams take the field. Our baseball squad has the night off but will host Zavalla at 11:00 am tomorrow. We hope you can make plans to join us and cheer on our teams.
