Payton is currently ranked 10th in our region and is only getting stronger. Good luck, Payton!! Also, don't forget that a community pep rally will be held this afternoon at 5:30 in our gym for our Mighty Owls basketball team as they punched their ticket to the Region IV Semi-Finals last night with a convincing win over Hubbard. I wanted to inform you that to celebrate our Mighty Owls basketball success and after checking to make sure that we will have the state-required minutes, we will be canceling school for Friday, March 4th. This will allow for everyone who wants to attend the game on Friday evening to do so without being rushed getting to Austin. There are plenty of opportunities to come out and show your Chireno pride in support of our student athletes. First, our baseball squad fires the first pitch of their game tonight at 6:00 pm against Centerville on the home field. They will also be in action tomorrow afternoon in San Augustine with a JV game slated to begin at 4:30 pm with the varsity baseball team taking the field at 7:00 pm. Our Mighty Owls basketball team will be in action tomorrow evening back in the confines of Slocum High School Gymnasium. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 against Hubbard for a chance to secure a birth in the Region IV Class A Regional Tournament this weekend. Also, our Lady Owls softball team will be on the road playing in the Groveton Tournament beginning this Thursday and playing through the weekend. Let the spring games begin!!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Tonight is "Game Night!" We hope you can make it to Slocum, Texas this evening to cheer on our Mighty Owls in Area Round playoff action. Tip off is at 7:00 pm against Avalon. The winner advances to the Regional Quarterfinals to await the winner of Wells and Hubbard. Also, good luck to Melissa Ramirez, Jessi Smith, and Dacey Coleman as they compete at the Regional Powerlifting meet at Rice ISD tomorrow morning at 8:30. All three young ladies have put in a tremendous amount of work to reach this level and will be vying for a spot at the state competition in each of their weight classes. Finally, good luck to our baseball team as they play three games today in the Joaquin tournament. Our first home game of the young season will be this Monday, Feb. 28 against Centerville. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

Even though we came up on the short end of a great game with Neches, our ladies never gave up and played their hearts out until the final horn. We are so proud of you, Lady Owls!
