From the Chireno Sports Wire: It's Race Day! Good luck to our junior high and high school cross country runners this afternoon as they compete in Brookeland this afternoon. Race times are as follows: 1:00 - Varsity Girls 1:30 - Varsity Boys 2:00 - JV Girls 2:30 - JV Boys 3:30 - JH Girls 4:00 - JH Boys Also, our junior high basketball teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, Sept. 5, here at home against Brookeland. There will be 3 games on the slate with the Boys' B team getting things underway at 4:00 pm. The Girls' A team will play next followed by the Boys' A team.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: This afternoon's junior high and high school cross country meet in San Augustine has been cancelled. Our next scheduled cross country event will be next Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Brookeland.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our Junior High Lady Owls for bringing home championship hardware this past Saturday as winners of the Broaddus Junior High Tournament! They scored victories over Big Sandy and Broaddus on their way to the top prize. Our Junior High Mighty Owls secured their first win of the season with a victory over Broaddus on their way to a strong second place finish. Both programs will be back in action Tuesday, August 27, at Wells where A and B teams will play. The girls' B team will get the evening underway with a 5:00 pm tip off followed by the boys' B team. The girls' and boys' A teams will cap off the night.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our junior high boys' and girls' teams are scheduled to play in the Broaddus Junior High Tournament this weekend, but there have been some changes to the tournament schedule. Both of our teams will now play on Saturday only and will follow this schedule: 9:00 am - Chireno vs. Big Sandy (girls) 10:00 am - Chireno vs. Big Sandy (boys) 11:00 am - Chireno vs. Broaddus (girls) 12:00 PM - Chireno vs. Broaddus (boys)

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: The 2024 Junior High basketball season is here! We hope you will make plans to come and support our girls and boys teams as we host Martinsville this evening. There will only be two games with the ladies tipping off at 5:30 pm. Both teams are also slated to play in this weekend's Broaddus Tournament beginning on Thursday. Good luck to our players and coaches as we get the season started!

She is one of 231 students state-wide from all UIL classifications who earned this distinction as a result of accumulating at least 50 points by excelling at various UIL journalism contests this past school year. The is a remarkable accomplishment that requires dedication and hard work to achieve. Way to go, Brielle!!

Chireno High School is sad to report that it has learned of the death of one of its former students, Alexis “Alex” Lozoya, from his family. Alex, an 18 year old former student, died May 23, 2024. He was a resident of Chireno. Funeral arrangements are not available at this time. The school counselor, Mrs. Pinner, is available tomorrow, May 24, should any student wish to talk about Alex’s death. Please keep the family in your prayers as they deal with this difficult situation. All are invited to attend as our young men and women will be receiving their earned awards and scholarships. Congratulations to another outstanding class of seniors!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Once again, Chireno High School was well represented at the state level of the UIL Academic Meet on the campus of UT Austin this week! Senior Trevin King placed 6th in Informative Speaking; Senior Colton Theriot brought home a silver medal placing 2nd in Computer Applications; and Freshman Brielle Theriot claimed a bronze medal placing 3rd in Editorial Writing. Congratulations to these students along with UIL sponsor Kim Sloane on these outstanding performances!

Parents of 10th and 11th graders: There will be an informational meeting about dual credit @ 6 and an informational meeting for Junior parents at 6:30 on May 9th in the cafeteria.

Congratulations to Bailey Barrett and Avery Copeland on a successful year of L. O. T. Crew. They were honored today at SFASU during the L. O. T. Crew Convocation.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Mighty Owls left it all on the field today but came up short in the best-of-three series against Joaquin. These games were the lasts for seniors Shaden Babbs and Keith Patton. These young men poured their hearts into our baseball program during their fours years in high school and gave Coach Bleile all they had in every game. Congratulations to all of our players and coaches on an outstanding season!

As a reminder, this is Game 1 of a best-of-three series with games 2 & 3 taking place on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am in Shelbyville. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Let's go, Mighty Owls!!

ATTN PARENTS, the 7th/8th grade Parent Meeting has been RESCHEDULED: Attention parents of our current 7th & 8th graders Chireno ISD will have a Parent Night on Monday, May 6, 2024 to learn more about student course selections for the upcoming school year. Students and parents will be given information from our CTE programs to aid in the selection of elective courses for 8th and 9th grade. Instructors and current students from our CTE programs will be on hand to offer guidance and information.
