Also, our junior high basketball teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, Sept. 5, here at home against Brookeland. There will be 3 games on the slate with the Boys' B team getting things underway at 4:00 pm. The Girls' A team will play next followed by the Boys' A team.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Congratulations to our Junior High Lady Owls for bringing home championship hardware this past Saturday as winners of the Broaddus Junior High Tournament! They scored victories over Big Sandy and Broaddus on their way to the top prize. Our Junior High Mighty Owls secured their first win of the season with a victory over Broaddus on their way to a strong second place finish. Both programs will be back in action Tuesday, August 27, at Wells where A and B teams will play. The girls' B team will get the evening underway with a 5:00 pm tip off followed by the boys' B team. The girls' and boys' A teams will cap off the night.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our junior high boys' and girls' teams are scheduled to play in the Broaddus Junior High Tournament this weekend, but there have been some changes to the tournament schedule. Both of our teams will now play on Saturday only and will follow this schedule:

10:00 am - Chireno vs. Big Sandy (boys)
11:00 am - Chireno vs. Broaddus (girls)

Chireno High School is sad to report that it has learned of the death of one of its former students, Alexis “Alex” Lozoya, from his family. Alex, an 18 year old former student, died May 23, 2024. He was a resident of Chireno. Funeral arrangements are not available at this time. The school counselor, Mrs. Pinner, is available tomorrow, May 24, should any student wish to talk about Alex’s death. Please keep the family in your prayers as they deal with this difficult situation.

Senior Trevin King placed 6th in Informative Speaking; Senior Colton Theriot brought home a silver medal placing 2nd in Computer Applications; and Freshman Brielle Theriot claimed a bronze medal placing 3rd in Editorial Writing. These games were the lasts for seniors Shaden Babbs and Keith Patton. These young men poured their hearts into our baseball program during their fours years in high school and gave Coach Bleile all they had in every game. ATTN PARENTS, the 7th/8th grade Parent Meeting has been RESCHEDULED:
Attention parents of our current 7th & 8th graders Chireno ISD will have a Parent Night on Monday, May 6, 2024 to learn more about student course selections for the upcoming school year. Students and parents will be given information from our CTE programs to aid in the selection of elective courses for 8th and 9th grade. Instructors and current students from our CTE programs will be on hand to offer guidance and information.
