From Chireno ISD: Chireno ISD will delay the start of school Tuesday, January 21, until 10:00 am. However, please be advised that Chireno ISD personnel will also be checking road conditions in the early morning hours, and if a change in plans for the school day are necessary, the school will notify students, parents, faculty, and staff in a timely manner through the school's mass phone messaging system. Any changes to current plans will also be posted on the school's website, the school's facebook page, as well as KTRE and KLTV television stations.

This evening's four game slate will begin at 4:00 with our JV girls taking the court first followed by the JV boys, varsity girls, then varsity boys. Ceremonies will begin approximately 30-45 minutes after the final game has ended. It's going to be a great night in Chireno!

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Fresh off a clean sweep against our friends in Woden this past Friday evening, our high school basketball programs will look to keep the momentum going strong as they travel to Corrigan-Camden tomorrow afternoon. While the JV girls will have the night off, the JV boys will get things started with a 4:30 pm tip with the varsity girls and boys to follow. Don't forget this Friday, Jan. 17, is our annual Homecoming where we will host West Sabine in a four-game slate beginning at 4:00 pm. Homecoming festivities will get underway approximately 30-45 minutes after the conclusion of the varsity boys game.

Play begins today as our boys will tip off against Wells in the Huntington Middle School gym at 10:30 AM while our ladies will get underway against Huntington in the high school gym at 12:00 PM. Our boys will continue play this afternoon at 4:30 in the high school gym against Baytown Sterling while our girls will play again in the middle school gym at 6:00 pm against Livingston.

Our JV and varsity ladies will host Corrigan-Camden in their first game of district play beginning at 5:00 pm while our JV and varsity boys will be on the road at Central. Their night will also begin at 5:00 pm. Good luck to our players and coaches tonight! Also, if you have not reserved your spot for our theater department's performance of Persephone, please do so quickly as Mrs. Alicia Mathews needs an accurate count for the December 19 performance. If you wish to purchase dinner before the show, tickets are $15 and must be purchased by tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 11. PARENTS: The funeral for Riley Copeland, a Chireno graduate, will be held on Friday at 2:00. In order to allow our staff and students who wish to attend, and to allow for overflow parking to be accessible in the school front parking lot, school will be releasing at 11:30 that day. Car rider dismissal will begin at 11:20 and buses will begin loading at 11:25. Students will be served lunch before dismissal on that day. Again, Friday, December 6, 2024 school will release at 11:30.

Chireno ISD extends prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Riley Copeland during this difficult time. A graduate of the Class of 2023, Riley was an outstanding young man, a great teammate, and a hard worker. Jumpstart and Activate are a part of Texas Farm Bureau's Student Success Series. Through the programs, Chireno CTE students are given the opportunity to learn more about their community, agriculture and to develop critical professional skills. Jumpstart and Activate plant the seed of Texas Farm Bureau for these students and lead them into the second half of the Student Success Series.” Chireno's CTE (PRINAFNR Class) Had 21 students learn about Texas agriculture, grew leadership skills and became more familiar with TFB through Jumpstart. Students gain an understanding of the importance leadership has in our everyday lives. They are given knowledge on business etiquette and developed critical professional skills. They also explored career opportunities within the Agricultural, Food and Natural Resources career cluster, and participated in guided self-reflection activities. Through Activate, Students from SMANIMGT & LIVEPROD (Classes) had 22 students learn more about TFB, created a legacy and personal brand, and explored career opportunities. During this program, these students dove into how to build a legacy to leave their mark on the world. They developed an understanding of the agricultural supply chain and explored methods to develop a positive and impactful personal brand. These Students were encouraged to continue their understanding of the Texas Farm Bureau.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: It was a great day for our JV girls team as well as both varsity squads! The Lady Owls JV defeated the Mt. Enterprise varsity team this morning in the New Summerfield tournament to get the day started off with a bang. This afternoon, our varsity ladies won big over Cushing while our boys varsity team defeated Martinsville in the Wells Tournament. Both teams move on into the next round in the winner's bracket. Our girls will play at 11:45 am Friday and our boys will play at 1:00 pm.
