Dear Chireno ISD Family,
Due to unforeseen circumstances related to the unprecedented winter weather event this week, causing major issues with water, power and other infrastructure throughout the school district, all classes and on campus activities for the school week of Monday, February the 22nd through Friday the 26th are cancelled.
Please continue to check the school website and our Facebook page for updates as the district works to get us all back on campus as soon as possible.
We wish everyone the best in this difficult time and cannot wait to see you all back at Chireno ISD very soon!

From the Frozen Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Basketball Playoff information: Our boys are Co-Champions of District 28-A! Our Mighty Owls are scheduled to play Laneville at Nacogdoches High School on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 6:00 pm. This is the bi-district round of play. Those wishing to attend must wear a mask at all times. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Dear Chireno ISD Family,
Due to freezing temperatures, power outages, and the continued probability of freezing precipitation over the next several days, Chireno ISD is cancelling all classes for the remainder of the week. Classes will resume on Monday, February 22nd at the regularly scheduled time. The board meeting scheduled for this Thursday will be postponed to a later date. Please try to enjoy this time away from school with your family and check in on your loved ones and neighbors during this unprecedented winter weather event. Stay safe, stay warm, and we will see you on Monday!

Out of an abundance of caution,
due to current weather conditions and the fact that temperatures will not rise above freezing throughout the day tomorrow,
Chireno ISD is cancelling classes for Tuesday, February the 16th.
Please check our website and our Facebook page regularly for updates as we monitor conditions over the next several days.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Our Lady Owls are preparing to begin their playoff journey as they anxiously wait to play the winner of Jonesboro and Milford. However, those two schools have been unable to play due to circumstances beyond their control, which are mostly weather related. Therefore, we have been informed that we may have to wait until late next week before our Lady Owls can play one of these two schools. When game time information becomes available, we will post it as soon as possible. Meanwhile, our Mighty Owls will be in action tonight at Burkeville beginning at 6:00. A win tonight solidifies an outright district championship for our boys. If this happens both boys' and girls' teams will own District 28-1A championships for 2020-2021.

Friendly Reminder:
The CISD campus is closed Monday, February 15th. Enjoy the three-day weekend and stay warm!

Chireno ISD would like to thank Justin Mott and Mott Media for live streaming our junior high and high school district home basketball games this season. Justin has done a fantastic job and is a true professional.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: We have solidified a playoff warmup game for our Lady Owls this Monday, Feb. 8. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm in Douglass against the Lady Indians. Per Douglass ISD protocol, 80 visiting fans will be allowed in with a ticket and all spectators must wear masks at all times.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: This evening's Senior Night recognitions will take place before the tip off of the girls' game with Goodrich, which is scheduled for 6:00 pm. The boys' game will immediately follow. This is the final home game for our seniors who have given so much to our basketball programs. Both games will be live streamed as will the Senior Night recognitions. All fans must have a ticket to enter the gym, will be temperature screened, and will be required to wear masks at all times.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Chester ISD will allow 30 fans on the visitor side of their gym per game. Therefore, those with tickets to see the girls' game will be allowed in. However, immediately after the conclusion of that game, the visitors' side will be cleared of all spectators so that up to 30 fans (with boys' game tickets) can enter and watch the next game. Those who do not possess a boys' game ticket will not be allowed back into the gym. Individuals who arrive early for the boys game will not enter the gym until all Chireno fans attending the girls' game have left the gym. Both schools have agreed to these rules to mitigate potential Covid-19 exposure. As a reminder, masks must be worn at all times while in the gym. The first game begins at 5:00 pm.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Basketball news for the week...
Tomorrow night's boys' and girls' games in Burkeville have been cancelled. We are currently unsure if the girls will reschedule. However, we will attempt to reschedule the boys' game for next week at some point. Saturday's games in Chester have been moved up to this Thursday, Feb. 4, with the girls tipping things off at 5:00 pm. Friday, Feb. 5, is Senior Night with the final home game of the season against Goodrich. The Lady Owls will tip things off at 6:00 pm with the boys' game to immediately follow.

From the Chireno Owls Sports Wire: Tonight's games along with our homecoming ceremony will be live streamed on the Chireno Facebook page beginning at 6:00 pm. If you are unable to be with us in person, we hope you can join us online. It's going to be a fantastic night

Chireno Homecoming 2021 is here...Friday, Jan. 29! In order for CISD to be in compliance with Covid-19 mitigation protocols, we will ask that all fans and spectators leave the gym immediately following the conclusion of the boys' varsity game on Friday evening. This is so that CHS Student Council can safely and efficiently prepare the gym for homecoming ceremonies. This will also provide ample time for all individuals who do not have a homecoming ceremony ticket to exit safely. After the gym has been cleared, those who possess a ticket to homecoming ceremonies will be allowed to enter the gym after being temperature screened. It is important to note that basketball game tickets will not be accepted. Only individuals who have tickets to homecoming ceremonies will be allowed inside and all who attend must wear a mask. Parents of seniors will sit on the home side of the gym while parents of underclassmen participating will sit on the visitors' side. Our student council has worked diligently to make tomorrow night a huge success and a one to remember. Welcome home, CHS alumni!
